About Us

The Marketing Analytics Outlook is written by three senior marketing analytics majors at Illinois State University. Mark Gewargis, Kirby Hartz, and Matt O'Boyle are all enrolled in Dr. Chiharu Ishida's brand management course for the spring semester and will be contributing to the Marketing Analytics Outlook.

The purpose of the Marketing Analytics Outlook is to provide a fresh perspective on a rapidly growing and changing industry. Most information about it comes from large, business focused websites and experienced professionals. What is missing from the conversation then is the perspective of those most invested in it, students and young professionals just entering the field. This blog aims to provide just that.

Running from February 18th to April 15th, there will be a weekly blog post discussing a different aspect of marketing analytics for a total of seven posts. The following subjects will be covered.

An introduction to marketing analytics including the basic aspects of analytics and how it is applied to marketing as well as the common avenues of employment.

Future growth and trends in both jobs and the industry as a whole. What new job positions are appearing? What kinds of companies are getting involved? What is the overall perception of the direction of marketing analytics.

How to attain a job in marketing analytics. This includes what job postings to consider and what companies to look at as well a blueprint for a career in marketing analytics.

A day in the life. Continuing the process from the previous post, there will then be a more in depth look at the average "day in the life" of a marketing analytics professional. What would an average eight hours employed in the marketing analytics field entail?

The final post will provide the blueprint of an ideal marketing analytics candidate. This includes experience, expectations, education and software expertise. How should a person seeking to work in marketing analytics market and present themselves?
